REACH information for customers

Borealis is a member of several consortia and is working with the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) to identify all uses of substances for which we have registration or Downstream User (DU) obligations under the REACH regulation. The identified uses will be assigned and communicated in a standardised format, the ECHA Use Descriptor System.

Intended uses of a substance can be distinguished between industrial, professional and consumer use, and are aimed to be categorised further. The goal of this categorisation work is to group similar exposure scenarios into "use categories," which are intended to characterise the exposure during the uses of a substance. Exposure scenarios describe the exposure pathways throughout the life cycle of a substance. In this process different exposure routes, duration and frequency are the most important elements.

More detailed information can be found on our Use Communication page.

For our Polyolefins customers, we are a member of the Plastics Exposure Scenario team (PEST). This team represents  the plastic supply chain with the most important associations of additive manufacturers/importers , compounders,  masterbatchers, plastics converters and plastics producers. PEST is fully aware and supporting the fact that plastics downstream users:

  • want to maximise the chances that their uses will be covered in the registration dossiers,
  • also need confirmation that their uses will be assessed.

Additional information on PEST approach can be found on our Use Communication section.

For our Base Chemicals customers, we are a member of chemical industry consortia together with several CEFIC sector groups such as LOSG, APA, EFMA, EMPA and Phenol to prepare for the registration of chemical substances.

We are a member of the following consortia:
