Addressing Global Challenges Around the World
Enhancing the sustainable contributions that plastic materials deliver to society
Whether it is on television or in the newspapers, every day we read about the many issues facing the world today. Six of the major global challenges are:
- Climate change – to limit CO2 emissions and to keep global warming under control;
- Water access – more than 1 billion people with no access to fresh water. More than 2 billion are without access to adequate sanitation. Due to climate change, up to 3 billion people may live in water scarce region within the next 20 years;
- Energy access – to provide for the world's increasing energy needs;
- Communication – to extend, secure and strengthen communication networks that are critical to our modern economy and quality fo life;
- Healthcare – to assist ageing populations in North America, Europe and Asian countries like Japan or China;
- Food safety – protecting and delivering safe food across regions.
For each of these challenges we, Borealis and Borouge, deliver solutions:
- CO2 emissions cut across the value chain with energy efficient vehicles;
- Access to fresh water and sanitation with sustainable pipe networks;
- Improved access to energy through diversification of supply, development of renewable resources and better management of existing access;
- Enhanced food preservation and delivery using advanced packaging solutions;
- Reliable wire or wireless and broadband communications through stable, secure communications networks;
- Safer, more convenient and more affordable medical devices.
Put simply, we can make a difference, not only in the way we operate but in the way we bring sustainable solutions to address these challenges.
