Climate Protection
Reducing our carbon footprint with more energy efficient solutions
Keeping global warming under control
is amongst the most crucial challenge humankind is facing.
Climate change is already affecting our environment. It
will further affect our habitat, our fresh water supply, our food
production capacity and the lives of many. Most of the world’s man-made
greenhouse gases emissions are caused by fossil fuels combustion for
heating, power production and transportation. Besides the reduction of
its own footprint, Borealis is committed to advance solutions that
innovative plastics bring to protect our climate.
Bringing an informed perspective
As a leader in the plastics industry, Borealis is often asked about the carbon performance of its operations and its management practices while the carbon footprint of plastics is also questioned across our value chain. To address these questions, Borealis has issued a comprehensive paper on its approach to climate protection and the carbon footprint of polyolefins applications;
Reducing our own emissions
Borealis continuously strives to minimise its carbon footprint and ambitions to outperform European CO2 targets. Over the past five years, Borealis has reduced by a third its direct CO2 emissions (down to 1,54 MT), thus respecting Borealis' commitment to Responsible Care.
Offering more carbon friendly solutions
Plastics make a key contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions. Enhancing the energy efficiency and carbon performance of advanced materials we produce is key to our value creation through innovation strategy. For advanced packaging – Compared to a traditional LDPE, our Borstar® grades make possible to reduce by 40% CO2 emissions during the life of the applications.
Share with us your feedback on your own perspective on plastics and climate protection.
