Energy Access

Securing supply and improving efficiency

Energy Access

LifestyleThe world needs energy. By 2030, it is projected that global energy demand will grow by more than 50%. Securing energy supply is a growing challenge in rich and poor countries alike.  More than 2 billion people still have today no access to electricity and massive investment will have to be made to modernise existing power grids.

Borealis is committed to champion energy access and efficiency to the benefits of the entire value chain.

Developing more energy efficient solutions

Lightweight yet resistant, modern plastics save more energy during their life than used for their production. From advanced packaging to automotive or infrastructure, energy efficiency of the solutions we develop is central to the value we bring to our customers and society.

Our innovations are testimony of this approach. Our latest Borstar materials allow up to 25% reduction in material use and significant energy saving for processing.

Securing access to energy

New generation of polyolefins for high voltage cables have been developed to meet the challenges of connecting wind power to the grids or underground power lines. Borealis advanced solutions play a key role in securing access to energy by making power grids more robust, efficient and interconnected.

Reducing our own energy use

Borealis has set up an Energy Council to pilot the energy efficiency policy of its operations. Over the past five years, Borealis has cut by 18% its energy consumption . Learn more about Borealis' perspective on energy efficiency.
