Chemicals and REACH implementation

The new European Union (EU) regulation on chemicals – REACH – will gradually apply to all chemical substances, from large volume base chemicals to all additives and production aids involved in the entire petro-chemicals and plastics value chain.

Borealis welcomes the basic principles which this regulation brings to improving chemicals management and to rebuild trust in the contribution chemicals make to society.

Leading REACH implementation

The challenge is now to make it work in a efficient way, particularly with regards to the massive flow of information and data to manage across the whole value chain.

Since 2004, Borealis has been anticipating the implementation of REACH. A cross-functional team works with our product stewardship department to ensure compliance with and implementation of the regulation. Moreover, Borealis has been the first plastics manufacturer to partner with the European Converters Association in a value chain preparation project.

To guide our customers in a nimble and transparent way, information queries form and additional backgrounders are available.

For more information on the European Chemicals regulation, visit the EU Chemicals agency and the European Chemicals Industry Federations (CEFIC).
