Raw Materials and our Polymers
Providing an open dialogue about our products
Principles
At Borealis, we use a Chemical Control system to evaluate the materials we use, produce or sell. We strive to follow the Precautionary and Substitution Principles and provide open information about our products.
Our polymers
- Our products are in principle free from heavy metals. Traces of catalyst residues containing metals such as chromium and titanium may be present in concentrations approved by authorities (below a few ppm) and can be regarded as posing no risk.
- We have minimised the use of halogenated flame retardants, and provide a range of fire-resistant grades based on non-halogenated additives.
- We do not put known endocrine disruptors into our products. We participate in international research and monitor developments in this area.
- We take special measures to minimise exposure and provide proper information to customers regarding specialty polymers containing irritating or allergenic chemicals, such as acrylate co-monomers or peroxides for cross-linking.
