Responsible Care

Responsible Care is the global chemical industry's commitment to improve performance in health, safety and environment (HSE) to drive continuous improvement in performance. It was launched in 1985 and seeks to build confidence and trust in an industry that is essential to improving living standards and the quality of life.

As a further extension of Responsible Care, the global chemical industry established the Responsible Care Global Charter. It extends the process of continuous improvement beyond manufacturing, especially the safe use and handling of products along the value chain. It also addresses important societal issues including sustainable development and the need to work more closely and transparently with others. Borealis has signed the Responsible Care Global Charter together with Borouge.

Borealis additionally has an ambitious HSE Policy in line with Borealis values and mission. It is setting high standards for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for our operations as well as for our products along the value chain. 

Outstanding HSE Management

Borealis operates an extensive and integrated group-wide management system focused on continuous improvement in line with the Responsible Care Policy. The management system has clear requirements and procedures on how to operate according to world class standards. It fulfils the requirements stated in international standards and is certified accordingly.

Every employee has the responsibility for the health, safety and environmental aspects of his/her individual tasks, and an obligation to care for his/her colleagues. Contractors working for us are highly integrated in our management system and performance statistics.

A dedicated group of experts, operating in networks across the company, continuously monitors and develops the management system requirements according to world class practices. Specific Intranet solutions have been developed to safeguard a common and readily available information as well as extensive information sharing and collaboration across the company.

Our performance is continuously monitored through a set of performance indicators. Performance monitoring is increasingly focusing on leading indicators that we by experience know will give us the results we are aiming for.
