Borealis has a long tradition in Austria. It contains an Innovation Centre in Linz and operates a production site in Schwechat, close to Vienna.

Borealis feels an obligation to the Responsible Care® principles. Health, safety and the environment are an absolute company priority.

In 2006, Borealis in Austria received accreditation according to the Responsible Care standards for the fourth time and celebrated 10 years of RC-award.

Production capacity that makes a difference

Borealis in Schwechat produces about 1 million tonnes of polyolefins which are provided to customers for infrastructure, advanced packaging and automotive applications for the German, Austrian, Swiss and Italian market.

Ethylene and propylene feedstocks are supplied via pipeline from the adjacent OMV refinery ethylene plant.

Borealis has 2 polypropylene plants (PP), 1 Borstar polyethylene plant (PE), 3 low density polyethylene plants (LDPE) and 1 compounding unit.

Borealis employs a total of 540 people in Schwechat.

Linz

Linz is one of three Borealis Innovation Centres. As of 2011, Linz is to be expanded to form the centre of Borealis' international research and development activities.

Besides focusing on the development of innovative, value-creating plastics solutions, we never lose sight of our responsibility to be a good neighbour to the local communities in which we operate.

The International Innovation Centre in Linz regroups Product and Market Development and Marketing and Sales for the Automotive and Advanced Packaging segments.

It includes:

Pilot plant for the development of technical compounds
Polymer design laboratories
Customer service centre

250 people are employed in Linz.

In Austria, Borealis employs around 1500 people including Head Office located in Vienna.
