International Innovation Headquarters in Linz
The expansion of the international Innovation Headquarters in Linz, including an application hall, storage facilities, a state-of-the-art polymerisation laboratory and office building as well as a customer service center, was completed in autumn 2009.
This event is the culmination of approximately one and a half years of construction and a total investment volume of EUR 50 million. About 350 international Borealis employees from over 30 countries, working in research and product development as well as in marketing and sales, are developing plastic materials of the future for Borealis' global customers and housed in the Innovation Headquarters.
Borealis announced in late 2009 an additional investment of EUR 75 million in a semi-commercial catalyst plant in Linz to develop and scale up new catalysts for the production of innovative new polymers.
Besides focusing on the development of innovative, value-creating plastics
solutions, we never lose sight of our responsibility to be a good neighbour
to the local communities in which we operate.
Melamine, plant nutrients and technical nitrogen production in Linz
Borealis Agrolinz Melamine GmbH in Linz produces up to 2 million tonnes of base chemicals and about 80,000 tonnes of melamine per year. Melamine is used for coatings, compounds for houseware and fireblockers. Besides melamine, a broad range of fertiliser products and special chemicals are manufactured in Linz. Complex fertilizers, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonia, Urea, Guanidine Carbonate and AdBlue® are only a few of them.

Around 800 employees are working in the base chemicals business in
Linz, making Linz together with the Innovation Headquarters the biggest
Borealis location worldwide.
In Austria, Borealis employs around 1,700 people, including the Head Office, which is located in Vienna.
