Borealis in Belgium

An integral part of the company’s strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of its European polyolefins business

Belgium, at the commercial heart of Europe, has hosted Borealis production centres for more than 30 years. 

The country’s knowledge-based economy has proven an ideal environment for Borealis, matching its own culture of innovation and giving access to a highly educated workforce.

Operating from three production sites, two of which are part of one of the world’s largest chemical industry complexes in the Port of Antwerp, we are close to many of our customers.

In Belgium, Borealis employs around 900 people at production sites in Beringen, Kallo and Zwijndrecht, and at the group’s service centre in Mechelen.

In Beringen, Borealis has two polypropylene (PP) plants and a compounding plant.

Equally important, we are located directly on a major transportation hub, which provides for the efficient flow of incoming feedstock to our plants and the subsequent delivery of our plastics throughout Europe.

Kallo 

At our facilities in Kallo, we produce propylene and polypropylene.  Through a dehydrogenation process we convert propane to propylene, which our plant then uses to make polypropylene.

Zwijndrecht

In Zwijndrecht, Borealis operates polyethylene (PE) compounding for low density polyethylene and material handling facilities.  The compounded polyethylene is used mainly for wire and cable products.
