Fridges and Freezers

Fridges and freezers are one of the greatest users of plastic material among the large appliance segment. They include over 60 percent by volume with a key focus on improving the energy efficiency of the cooling unit.

The fridges & freezer segment is regarded as the biggest segment with around 40% of the appliances share, but is growing less. In general, these cooling equipments consume more energy compared to many other appliances and in the last few years there has been significant improvement on the energy saving coming mainly from the efficient designs and sophisticated electronics.

The appliances manufactures have been focusing on the process optimisations, energy efficiency and aesthetics. Energy efficiency has been in the driver seat, with respect to innovation and PP has not been a major part in this area due to different technical challenges. ABS and PS enjoy better market share but are coming under pressure with the upcoming developments with PP for different applications. PP has not only room for the housings and internal components but also has the potential to replace existing inner liners, door frames and pan covers leading to significant reduction in energy consumptions.
