Stationery Film
Polypropylene resins offer high stiffness and optimal sealing properties for stationery films
Borealis manufactures polypropylene resins that can
be used for extruding stationery films.
These films are used for plastic sleeves, binders and other
stationery products. The resins used in stationery films
include:
- PP homopolymers
- Filled PP homopolymers (stiffness)
- PP random copolymers (optics, sealing properties)
- PP heterophasic copolymers (mechanics, tenacity)
Propropylene Homopolymers
PP homopolymers have characteristics that make them ideal for creating stiff stationery products. These properties consist of:
- high stiffness,
- excellent heat deflection temperatures,
- excellent H2O barrier,
- good transparency,
- high tensile strength.
Bormod™ is a line of PP homopolymers that enhance these properties using highly crystalline grades. Our Bormod™ HD915CF, for example, is a very stiff, highly crystalline PP homopolymer that is tailor-made for extruding stationery films.
Heterophasic Copolymers
Heterophasic copolymers have an ethylene-propylene rubber as a separate phase incorporated in the polymerisation process. Borealis' heterophasic copolymers have the following properties:
- a matt surface,
- low transparency,
- high toughness,
- good stiffness,
- extremely wide temperature range (from freezing to sterilising).
Random Heterophasic Copolymers (Rahecos)
Rahecos are a combination of random and heterophasic copolymers which also combine their properties, offering:
- high softness,
- excellent heat sealing properties at low gate sealing points,
- extremely low stress whitening,
- the best optical properties (gloss and haze) of all PP grades.
Random heterophasic copolymers offer much better optical, heat sealing and stress whitening properties than heterophasic copolymers.
Our Borsoft™ line of Rahecos can produce films that combine extreme softness with superior toughness.
