Housewares
Polypropylene (PP) grades for houseware applications enable efficient processing and more design freedom
Borealis produces a wide range of
polypropylene resins for the housewares market. These
materials are well-suited for:
-
kitchenware,
-
indoor and outdoor storage systems,
-
toys,
-
sports equipment,
-
do-it-yourself (DIY) products such as paint brushes,
-
garden articles and garden furniture.
Materials that make a difference
Our polypropylene grades are high-flow products which enable efficient processing and more design freedom while keeping optimal mechanical properties. They provide benefits such as:
-
increased throughput for converters due to reduced cooling time, easy processing and high flowability;
-
design freedom for the brand owner to create new, attractive shapes;
-
superior stackability through high stiffness and excellent creep properties so that it’s easy to both stack and un-stack articles, and they don’t collect dust;
-
excellent transparency which is particularly important for products such as kitchenware.
For retailers and consumers, houseware products produced using Borealis polypropylene offer high gloss, very low stress whitening properties and low dust collection. They also have very good impact properties, ensuring their safety and longer product life. Converters will profit from a reduction in cycle time thanks to the high flow. Moreover, the brand owner will be able to experiment with design and optics to achieve complex shapes.
Recommended grades for houseware
applications
RJ470MO is an ideal material grade suit for high transparency houseware requiring very good flow. It has a spiral flow 10% longer than the RJ370MO. This allows the material to fill up complex shapes and geometries, and gives more freedom of houseware designers. The RJ470MO also has excellent mechanical property balance which provides high stiffness while maintaining good impact resistance.
Borpact SE920MO is for transparent articles requiring high impact. With an impact resistance comparable to MFR 13 heterophasic polypropylene, Borpact SE920MO is suitable for large, transparent under-bed storage boxes or large low temperature storage boxes.
Bormod BF970MO is a heterophasic polypropylene used for applications where outstanding impact-stiffness balance is needed. Bormod BF970MO is made using our unique Borealis Nucleation Technology (BNT) which provides a highly uniform crystalline structure during cooling and rapid solidification for earlier de-moulding and higher output in the IM process. A 10% decrease in cycle time vs. MFR14 material has been shown, while delivering an enhanced balance of mechanical properties (MFR=20). This is perfect for storage boxes or furniture applications.
