Monomers and Base Chemicals in Europe

Partnering with the oil and gas industry as a major feedstock buyer to provide innovative, quality chemicals

Borealis owns and operates several steam crackers and a propane de-hydrogenation plant. We are selling and supplying olefins and base chemicals in Europe and to our polyolefins plants. These include:

  • Ethylene
  • Propylene (Polymer, Chemical and Refinery grades)
  • Butadiene
  • Butylenes, Raffinate 1
  • Pyrolysis Gasoline (Benzene)
  • ETBE
  • Carbon Black Feedstock (CBFS)

Our feedstock includes light naphtha, propane, butane and ethane.

Our energy includes the physical sourcing and portfolio management of power (electricity) and of natural gas; the latter both as a feedstock to our fertilizer business and as a utility.

Our place in Europe

Our steam cracker locations in Finland and Sweden are mainly using naphtha and LPG (propane / butane) as feedstock.  The majority of feedstock originates from refineries and gas treatment plants around the North Sea basin and in Russia and is transported by sea-going vessels and rail tank cars.

The propane dehydrogenation plant in Antwerp, Belgium is closely linked and supplied via the Antwerp Gas Terminal (AGT), capable of importing large LPG carriers and rail tank cars.

The olefin supplies to Burghausen, Germany and Schwechat, Austria are mainly sourced from nearby OMV production plants, but are also imported by rail tank cars to both locations.
