Acetone is readily soluble in water, ethanol, ether, etc., and is itself an important solvent for use in paints and varnishes but has also other major uses such as:

  • Methylmethacrylate (MMA) for subsequent polymerization to polymethylemethacrylate (PMMA)
  • Bisphenol A for polycarbonate and epoxy resins
  • Isophorone for coatings
  • In combination with cellulose based products for filtration
  • Methylisobutylketone (MIBK) for solvents
