Acetone is readily soluble in water, ethanol, ether, etc., and is itself an important solvent for use in paints and varnishes but has also other major uses such as:
- Methylmethacrylate (MMA) for subsequent polymerization to polymethylemethacrylate (PMMA)
- Bisphenol A for polycarbonate and epoxy resins
- Isophorone for coatings
- In combination with cellulose based products for filtration
- Methylisobutylketone (MIBK) for solvents
