Sustaining Polyolefin Innovation Leadership

Continuously improving the latest generations of our technologies

Photo of Innovation at WorkValue Creation through Innovation is at the core of Borealis’ strategy. Borealis continuously invests in its people, the Borstar® and other proprietary technologies and working processes internally and with external partners. In addition, Borealis collaborates with universities around the world to develop new technologies and solutions.

Borealis recognises the two most innovative research papers on polyolefins, olefins or melamine sciences to engage young people in Borealis' vision of Shaping the Future with Plastics with its Student Innovation Award.

Continuous polymer process development

Borstar polyolefin technology second generations, 2GPE and 2GPP, extend the Borstar benefits to a broader range of products with increased consistency. Key improvements to the latest generations of our technology include:

  • Broader property range
  • New catalyst for both new and improved properties
  • Increased efficiency via new catalyst preparation and feeding
  • Enhanced Cooling Mode for (ECM) which distinguishes Borstar as the largest multimodal PE process available, 540 KTA already under construction with more to come
  • Reduced power consumption
  • Reduced consumption of diluent and monomer

Innovation sustained by strategic prioritisation

As part of Borealis' overall growth strategy, our management is committed to the sustained development of our Innovation Centers. Our strategy is clear: 25% of Borealis Innovation Centers' investments are dedicated to long-term Research & Development projects, combining both our core competence with our leading technology processes.
