Borealis appoints Sirmax as distributor in Italy and shares stand at Plast'09

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, appointed major Italian distributor and compounder Sirmax as distributor in Italy for its advanced polyolefins used in thinwall containers, caps and closures and healthcare packaging. Sirmax will handle orders for processors operating with injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion technologies.

Sirmax will be representing Borealis at Plast'09 next March, where it will publicly launch the new partnership. The international plastics and rubber exhibition takes place in Milan from March 24 to 28. Technical representatives from Borealis representatives will also be present on the stand to talk about the company's extensive product range.

"Sirmax has more than 45 years of experience in distribution in Italy, and it also has considerable experience in compounding polyolefins, so they are an excellent choice for us," says Wim Roels, Borealis Vice President Business Unit Moulding. "Their focus on added value plastic products fits well with the Borealis strategy, so this should provide us with extra leverage to increase our Italian sales in such key segments advanced packaging and healthcare."

Sirmax distribution activities are managed from its headquarters in Cittadella, not far from Venice. In the last few years, it has been strengthening and extending its distribution network, both within Italy and beyond its borders. It now has sales offices in Milan and a new distribution centre in Isola Vicentina. It also has branch offices in France, Germany and Spain.

The company's polypropylene compounding activities are located in Cittadella, close to Padua. It opened a new plant in Tombolo in 2005 for the production of engineering plastic compounds. Most recently, Sirmax has been extending its reach into Eastern Europe where they started up a compounding plant, in Poland, in 2006.
