Its technology shapes daily life products and forms the basis of next generation innovation and creative development in plastics. In order to further develop Borealis analytical expertise, our R&D InnoTech Operational Support (IOS) in Linz (Austria) is looking for a Chromatography Lead Engineer in Polymer Analytics.

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure highest quality and technical standards in chromatography analysis of polymers for emission, sensory and additive testing with HPLC and GC/MS. In close cooperation with the team leader he/she ensures effective and efficient operations maximise throughput, quality and schedule adherence of tests. The incumbent of this role provides proposals for decision making of state-of-the-art equipment investments to the management.

Area of responsibility     

  • Ensure the availability and further development of state of the art in chromatography characterisation methods and technologies in HPLC, GC/MS, and emission, sensory and additive testing.
  • Ensure a high efficient characterisation performance and result evaluation in responsible area
  • Characterise selected Borealis’ polymer grades according to specialized techniques
  • Support Borealis pro-active patenting strategy by providing technical characterisation results and conclusions by applying and evaluation of standard and “non-standard” polymer characterization techniques and their results
  • Active contribution in internal IOS network, in responsible field and participation in external cooperation’s with institutes and universities
  • Active contribution to harmonisation of Borealis test methods in IOS and Quality Control networks
  • Technical consulting for characterisation problems on polyolefins to internal customers
  • Increase of the knowledge level about chromatography characterisation throughout the organisation (literature surveys, technical presentations at internal and external platforms)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

  • PhD or Chemistry (MSc, Diploma) or similar education
  • Min. 3 years’ experience in chromatography, scientific methods, methods development and tools in a polyolefin or pharmaceutical environment
  • Polyolefin know how as well as experience in a regulated environment is preferred (e.g. ISO, ASTM, GMP…)
  • Fluency in German and English
  • Leadership skills as you will lead a small team of technicians in your own area
  • Good soft skills and a team approach, very good communication skills

We offer a competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement, reflecting your competencies and experience, starting at EUR 48.718,08 annual gross salary and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
