We are currently looking for a Product Manager for the Business Unit Hydrocarbons & Energy based in Mechelen (Belgium).

Your job as a Commercial Product Manager in Borealis

The Product Manager job in Borealis means much more than buying and selling. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the Borealis polymer plants have sufficient monomer supply at all times and that our crackers are able to produce at commercially unconstrained capacity, at the same time maximise the value from the product streams all of this within the defined commercial mandates and built upon an excellent broad industry network.

It is your role to:

  • Evaluate and forecast the market developments for the assigned cracker products portfolio;
  • Manage Borealis’ commercial position with a strong focus on operational and logistical risk management;
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the cracker products purchase, supply and contracting strategy for the operational time frame;
  • Negotiate the cracker products contracts with 3rd parties engaging relevant stakeholders (Legal, Supply Chain, Risk department etc.);
  • Manage and execute the operational purchase, supply and swap activities (contractual and spot business) within the assigned products portfolio to achieve the targeted commercial performance which includes PO monomer supply, shipping and logistical economics, inventory management amongst others;
  • Establish and develop a commercial network enabling you to identify new potential sources of short and long term cracker products purchase, supply and swap opportunities;
  • Participate in industry conferences, projects, supplier and customer meetings;
  • Continuously look for creative ways to develop new business and suggest projects that could further strengthen Borealis’ cracker products position.

Your profile:

As a Product Manager you have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline with at least 3 years of working experience in a commercial environment. You have a practical understanding of petrochemical, oil and gas industries and market structures and a thorough understanding of suppliers, customers as well as competitors within the relevant markets. In addition, you have strong commercial and numeracy skills and the flair to develop robust and successful relationships with peers, producers, buyers, traders, and other external and internal stakeholders. Finally, you should be fluent in both written and spoken English. You are stress-resistant and a networking champion, which goes beyond the usual boundaries to achieve excellent commercial performance with a track record of sound decision-making. A person, with a strong drive, a team player, sociable personality and a "can do" mentality, demonstrating high levels of integrity and ethics. Multi-cultural awareness is essential as well. As a Product Manager working in a global environment frequent travelling (up to 20 %) should be taken into account.

Partnering with the oil and gas industry as major feedstock buyer, Borealis Hydrocarbon & Energy (HC&E) BU provides innovative and quality chemicals and operates several steam crackers as well as a propane dehydrogenation plant. We are selling and supplying olefins and other hydrocarbons in Europe to various customers and to our polyolefin plants. We also source and supply the energy (natural gas, electricity, steam, etc.) as utility to all plants in EU as well as natural gas feedstock for the Fertilizer and Melamine plants.

The commercial team for Feedstock and Cracker Products is responsible for managing and optimising Borealis requirements for our product portfolio in Europe. This we do mid- and long-term by negotiating and concluding commercial agreements and short-term by daily buying, selling and hedging of our position. Our commercial performance is measured against respective market benchmarks and we follow a strict mandate schedule set by acceptable risk exposures.
