As a Group Expert you deliver the highest level of expertise in the assigned technology towards the European assets within NITRO.


Role Purpose: 

  • Key purpose of the role is to drive energy and greenhouse gas emissions excellence throughout NITRO locations. As Natural Gas is used both as heating energy as well as main raw material for the Ammonia manufacturing process, all operation optimization measures are also energy optimization measures and highly influence the cost situation of the products.
  • Another element of this role, which is of growing importance, is the optimization of the greenhouse gases emissions. Due to increase in carbon price in the EU, the cost of CO2 emissions from Ammonia plants and of N2O emissions from Nitric Acid plants will have a significant and increasing impact on the cost of the final product.


Area of responsibility

  • Improve long term energy efficiency of the plants by giving expert advice on Energy & GHG improvement measures and projects
  • Assess and support plant energy walk curves and improvement tactics
  • Set up of Energy and Greenhouse Gas emissions targets and monthly follow up
  • Coordinate participation to Energy & GHG emissions benchmarks, data verification and results interpretation
  • Share Energy best practices and BAT; stimulate initiation and implementation of energy efficiency projects
  • Follow-up plant performance and drive plant optimization tactics within the plant operating windows
  • Keep aware of emerging energy technologies and share them within the organization
  • Train the organization and create awareness with respect to energy efficiency and GHG emissions



  • Master's degree (relevant engineering subject) from acknowledged university, or equivalent
  • Mastery of English at business level



  • Min. 10 years of work experience in a Process Engineering Expert role in Fertilizer area
  • Deep knowledge of the production processes and of the interactions and interdependencies between plants
  • Authority in his expertise area
  • Business understanding



  • Has a broad technical contact network within the company.
  • Share knowledge and encourage colleagues and co-workers.
  • Cultural awareness of an international team
  • Support local teams as an expert
