Health, safety and environmental (HSE) managers are responsible for developing and implementing organizational safety programs. As HSE Manager you are responsible for the local implementation of HSE processes in line with the targets and operating principles. As a member of the Global HSE leadership team you define the strategic action plan to assure implementation of HSE strategy within your area of responsibility.

Main areas of contributions and responsibilities:

  • Define together with the Global HSE team the implementation plan and target setting supporting the overall HSE strategy
  • Ensure integration of local needs and challenges into Group HSE plans and activities
  • Define local KPI’s and targets for your area of responsibility in line with the agreed implementation and action plan
  • Drive continuous improvement of the local organisations HSE performance and behaviour through regular audits and propose, recommend and support actions for improvements 
  • Take immediate action on situations/behaviour that does not meet HSE policies/standards and report this in Synergi
  • Ensure consistent understanding and implementation of HSE system and processes within designated area
  • Ensure the availability locally of effective and efficient HSE systems and processes
  • Evaluate risks regarding projects, changes in infrastructure/equipment and new chemicals and identify area for improvement
  • Ensure the local organisation is aware of and implements relevant legal and external requirements allowing Borealis to run its activities without interruption (licence to operate)
  • Pro-actively support the line responsible for meeting legal requirements by monitoring legal developments, close cooperation with official governmental institutes, determining controlling & corrective actions, reporting of deviations including recommendations for improvements
  • Accountable for security, fire protection and emergency preparedness
  • Recruitment and competence development of direct reports in order to assure an effective leadership
  • Manages the annual people calendar (performance management, people day, people survey) in a professional way in order to assure a competent and motivated workforce
  • Ensure integration of customer perspective into HSE systems and processes
  • Create awareness of HSE and safeguard local certification
  • Network with other locations and external contacts/experts to be alert to relevant developments and identify best practice solutions to local and common issues
  • Ensure that relevant information and observations from the “front line” are fed upwards and vice versa
  • Ensure sufficient co-operation locally with authorities, neighbor companies, neighbors, press and industry federations in HSE area


Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree from acknowledged university, or equivalent
  • Mastery of English at business level
  • Minimum 10 years experience in manufacturing
  • Experience and proven skills in incident investigation and audits
  • Ability to work with multi-cultural teams in international environment
  • Experienced in HSE systems and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change processes
  • Recognised for having excellent people skills, good team player, good change manager and create winning team culture
  • Recognized for being a communicator, dialogue engaging, inspiring and motivating and setting direction for others
