Are you looking for an opportunity to work in an international environment? We are currently looking for a Lead Buyer for a maternity leave cover on our site in Schwechat or alternatively Linz. In this vital role, you will ensure the global sourcing of raw materials or goods and services at the lowest total cost of ownership for the group in consideration of quality conformance, supply delivery accuracy, inventory turnover, life cycle cost, etc. You will be responsible for the conception and implementation of new best practices on the market in terms of total cost performance improvement and supply security and furthermore define best-in-class procurement strategies and tactics, align with internal stakeholders and secure implementation.

In your area of responsibility, you will…

  • Develop, implement and follow up on sourcing strategies for the assigned portfolio in line with company strategies, business plans, and policies.
  • Be responsible for competitive bidding, contract negotiations and establishment of supply contracts (Frame Agreements) for the assigned portfolio.
  • Ensure a companywide perspective in order to obtain the optimum result for Borealis by capturing multi-site synergies, and introduce innovative thinking and ideas related to the assigned portfolio and sourcing processes.
  • Ensure creation, proper implementation and local acceptance of commodity strategies and supply contracts in all relevant sites.
  • Assure in-depth knowledge of global markets by using all available (re-)sources and (market intelligence, benchmarking) tools.
  • Be accountable for the supplier performance review, feedback process and development of supplier development programs.
  • Take responsibility for implementing safety measures and improvements towards suppliers.
  • Improve our performance on the total cost of ownership by consolidating our current supplier base.
  • Act as a cross-functional team player to ensure internal and external customer needs are met as well as a pro-active interaction with the internal users to assure proper understanding of the requirements.
  • Cooperate with cross-functional category teams for the selected portfolio and maintain a professional relationship with our suppliers.
  • Interact actively with the procurement network and keep the local supply teams informed about the outcome of agreed commodity strategies and contracts negotiated.

This job might be right for you if you can combine a Master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Engineering, Economics or Business with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience within procurement, commercial management, sourcing of chemicals or technical equipment/services. We are looking for an analytical thinker who has been able to demonstrate proficiency in negotiating commercial deals and proven project management skills. As our preferred candidate, you are known for being a team player with very good communication skills and a tactical and strategical mind. Finally, a good knowledge of legal procurement contracting, a fluent verbal and written command of English and German as well as the willingness to travel are required.

Following Austrian law regulations we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, a competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 61.167,54 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
