We are looking for a Legal Counsel France in short term contract of 16 months, based in Courbevoie office (92).

Role Purpose: 

The Legal Counsel advises and supports legally within Borealis organisation the management of the French manufacturing sites in Grandpuits, Grand-Quevilly, Ottmarsheim and Le Havre. This task involves many different areas of business law.

Furthermore, the Legal Counsel provides advice in general commercial law matters, including competition law.


  • Drafting, review and negotiation of customer contracts including key customers. Development of contract templates
  • Support for business and external lawyers in any court and arbitration proceedings
  • Support in relation to corporate acquisitions/disposals and intra-group restructurings
  • Agreements with licence holders, joint-ventures and consortium partners
  • Be an “Ethics Ambassador” and train Borealis employees on a regular basis on ethics topics
  • Conduct internal legal trainings and participate in the development of contract templates
  • Actively assisting the Legal Department to increase its standing amongst its business partners
  • Act as the management’s and business’ (sales, marketing, technical departments) legal sparring partner
  • Assisting in investigations of claims from customers including drafting and negotiation of settlements
  • Conduct internal training in various areas of law for different departments in the Business Unit (including ethics and competition law compliance)
  • Develop in cooperation with the Senior Counsel Base Chemicals a Business Service Plan together with the Business Unit and the manufacturing sites to enable Legal Department to plan resources and in order to serve the legal needs.


  • Cross-organisational (Business Unit  and Site Management) and outside counsel
  • Representatives of counterparties, such as customers and/or suppliers
  • Courts and arbitration tribunals 



  • Graduate  from a reputable university  in France, international postgraduate law degree (LLM) an advantage
  • Admitted to a bar association, current or former, appreciated
  • French language and fluent in English; Dutch and/or German of advantage

Experience / skills

  • Total of at least 7 years of experience in a reputable international law firm combined with a couple of years of experience in a multinational company (chemical sector an advantage)
  • Excellent knowledge of business and contract law matters
  • Broad knowledge of commercial law (including administrative law) and competition law
  • Excellent contract drafting in French and English and exposure to various jurisdictions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Exceptional simultaneously problems solving skill and ability to manage risks
  • Ability and willingness to lead and influence people to result
