Do you have a MSc and/or PhD in relevant field (chemistry, physics, material science, polymer engineering/processing or equivalent) and are passionate about research and product development? Do you also have excellent problem solving ability, high ambitions and drive, and want to work in a growing multinational company – then you can be the one we are looking for!

The purpose of the role is to develop novel polymers and polymer compounds targeting mainly Energy & Infrastructure applications.  Working in international, cross-functional teams you will be involved in all aspects of product development; project management, polymer design and production, to enable step-change innovations and value creation.

Your responsibilities

  • Perform R&D work to develop new polymers / compounds, including experimental testing and data interpretation.
  • Translate market requirements into polymer properties, especially for low density polyethylene.
  • Interaction with production plants and optimization of polymerisation and post-reactor modifications, especially related to high pressure technology.
  • Initiate and support patenting of new polymers and products.
  • Establish continuous interfaces with internal and external customers/suppliers in order to optimize development and utilization of own expertise.
  • Act and work according to Borealis values.

Knowledge and skills

  • MSc or PhD degree in relevant field
  • Understanding of the relations between structure, processing and properties of polymers
  • Understanding of polymerisation process and industrial polymer production
  • Experimental design skills
  • Excellence in data analysis and interpretation
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Documentation, presentation and reporting skills
