Role purpose

Within Borealis’ R&D organisation the Innotech Process Technology team works mainly in the field of Borealis Base Chemicals and Polyolefins process innovation.

We are now looking for a talented individual with a strong background in the field of inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry & material science with strong focus on corrosion of metallic materials and related water chemistry as well as water treatment in chemical processes. The role is located in Linz Innovation Headquarter, Austria.

Contribution

  • Is responsible for research and technology development in line with our innovation objectives.
  • Acts as an expert in the field of Corrosion science and related water chemistry as well as water treatment.
  • Contributes to the development/improvement of Borealis chemical process technologies.
  • Is responsible for the development of lab testing methods, its knowledge transfer and training of new methods within lab teams.
  • Initiates new R&D projects and identifies new R&D topics in all fields of Borealis businesses.
  • Manages R&D projects according to Borealis project management standards. Ability to work/lead small teams.
  • Interacts strongly with colleagues in Operations and Business of Borealis
  • Manages and/or realises research projects with universities or other partners.
  • Takes lead in translating technical concepts into sustainable improvements of Borealis chemical technologies
  • Contributes to improve HSE&Q performance and to maintain highest HSE&Q standards.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • PhD degree and 3+ year industrial experience in Material Science or Inorganic chemistry, or in case of master education, 5+ year experience in relevant fields
  • Background/Experience in metal science, corrosion phenomena, chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry and water chemistry
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial chemical processes, e.g. ammonia technologies, hydrocarbon technologies, polyolefin technologies.
  • Experience in chemical / physical / material lab testing and analysis techniques
  • Communication skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English

We offer a competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 57.500 annual gross salary. In addition we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
