Borealis appoints Alfred Stern to head its Innovation and Technology programme
Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, announces the appointment of Alfred Stern as Vice President (VP) for Innovation and Technology, effective June 1, 2008. He will be succeeding Wim Roels, who assumes leadership of the company's Moulding business, and be based at the company's Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria.
Alfred Stern comes to Borealis from E.I. Du Pont de Nemours where he held several leadership positions in the areas of research and development, sales and marketing, and quality and business management in Switzerland, Germany and the United States. In his last assignment, he was Global Business Manager of the Engineering Polymers Business Unit in the United States.
Bringing a wealth of experience in plastics material research and development, as well as in application and new product development, Stern holds a PhD in material science and a master's degree in polymer engineering and science, both from the University of Leoben in Austria. He has been awarded, among others, the DuPont Award for a new product patent and a Prize of Honour from the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research.
Alfred Stern is 43 years old and will be relocating from the United States to Linz with his wife and their two children.
