We supply a range of high-quality polypropylene (PP) grades for the production of staple fibres, tapes, yarns and monofilaments used to make woven, nonwoven and knitted technical textiles

The growing segment of technical textiles encompasses textile products produced for functional purposes as opposed to aesthetic and apparel-related ones. Technical textiles are used in a variety of industries, including packaging (e.g. rope, twine, strapping, industrial bags, bulk or flexible intermediate bulk container/FIBC bags), agriculture (agrotextiles, baler twine), building (geotextiles, carpet yarns and backings), leisure (fishing and other sport nets, artificial grass etc.) and others.

No matter the area of application, users expect technical textiles to exhibit high performance levels with respect to long lifetime, durability, strength and weight. Geotextiles used outdoors – e.g. for roads, airfields, railway tracks or other civil engineering projects – must be extremely durable, holding up to wear and tear and the elements over long periods of time. In agricultural applications, agrotextiles are commonly used among other things for crop protection or as sun screens, making UV stability an essential performance parameter. Other outdoor applications such as artificial grass in stadiums or playing fields also demand high strength and UV stability, while indoor applications such as carpets must fulfil stringent standards when it comes to resistance to heat, abrasion, wear and colour fading.

The many benefits of using our PP fibre grades

The reliable supply of our high-performance PP fibre grades means that manufacturers of technical textiles can improve manufacturing efficiency – and thus overall cost effectiveness – thanks to high line speeds and high output rates. Excellent spinning stability ensures very low waste levels. Because downgauging is possible, additional savings (energy consumption, materials etc.) may also be realised. Yet our PP fibre materials offer additional benefits.

  • The presence of gas fading-free additives in our grades used in technical textile applications eliminates the potential for any adverse reaction with nitrogen oxide in the atmosphere. This helps manufacturers ensure a consistent, high-quality appearance for their products. It also helps prevent discolouration or fading of PP-based textiles.
  • A special stabilisation package added to our grades used in textile applications increases their long-term heat and UV stability by more than 100% when compared to conventional grades.
