Borealis is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with three highly regarded social and educational organizations within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This support will continue to be provided through the Borealis Social Fund, which was originally established in 2008. With the signing of the renewed agreement, a total of AED 3 million will be evenly distributed among the Emirates Foundation, the UAE Paralympic Committee, and the Emirates National Schools and support these organizations for another year. The signing ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 27 and was attended by Borealis CEO Thomas Gangl as well as representatives from each of the three organizations.

"For over a decade, the Borealis Social Fund has served as one of the means to support the commendable and exceptional initiatives undertaken by these three significant institutions in the UAE. All three organizations are dedicated to advancing education and fostering social cohesion. It is a privilege for us at Borealis to contribute to the success of these invaluable and multifaceted programs," says Thomas Gangl.

Emirates Foundation and Borealis: Years of partnership and integration

The renewal of the partnership agreement between Borealis and the Emirates Foundation further cements a relationship that has helped UAE communities become more resilient. The cooperation focuses on volunteering, capacity building, and promoting sustainable behaviors for critical topics, such as environment and community development. The Borealis Social Fund has been an essential contributor to the Foundation’s programs and initiatives aimed at making a positive impact on society and achieving sustainable development over the past years.

“We are very excited about the reconfirmation of this partnership between Borealis and the Emirates Foundation, and I look forward to our continued collaboration as we empower community members and create new initiatives to drive positive social change. As we renew this commitment, I would like to acknowledge the dedication of Borealis and the strength of this long-term partnership where we unite our efforts to overcome challenges and embrace a future filled with hope and promise,” states H.E. Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO at the Emirates Foundation.

UAE Paralympic Committee and Borealis: Inclusive community with societal impact

The UAE Paralympic Committee aims to be among the elite in the region, thereby facilitating the effective progression of adaptive sports for the people of determination in the UAE. The partnership with Borealis, through the Borealis Social Fund, has been facilitating the athletes’ integration into society for over a decade and it has, recently, contributed to preparing them for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

“The UAE Paralympic Committee appreciates Borealis’ significant role in supporting the sports for people of determination in the UAE, especially as we are approaching important Paralympic sporting events, both globally and regionally,” says H. E. Mohammed M. Fadhel Al Hameli, Chairperson of the UAE Paralympic Committee. “Over the years, we have observed Borealis as a socially responsible company that has consistently made a positive impact on communities and promoted the inclusion of all segments of society.”

Emirates National Schools and Borealis: High quality education for future leaders

Emirates National Schools holds the belief that thoughtfully crafted education leads to students who become lifelong learners, influential community leaders, and strong ambassadors for the UAE on the global stage. Borealis' partnership and the support through the Borealis Social Fund have played an important role in enhancing the school's virtual learning resources, developing electronic educational systems, and establishing IT laboratories in the schools. Furthermore, their support extends to empowering students to innovate and refine their skills through a diverse range of programs and activities focused on sustainability, recycling, technology, science, and agriculture.

“We would like to thank Borealis for its unwavering support and collaborative spirit in the ongoing partnership with Emirates National Schools,” says Dr. Shawn Dilly, Director General at Emirates National Schools. “Borealis has consistently demonstrated a commitment to education and a shared vision of nurturing future leaders. Their contributions have played a pivotal role in enhancing the educational experience for our students and advancing our mission to provide a world-class education. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and achieving many more milestones together.”

About the Borealis Social Fund

Established in 2008, the Borealis Social Fund, underpins Borealis’ role as a socially responsible company. Each year, a portion of the Group’s net profit is dedicated to the Fund, based on clearly defined allocation rules. To maximize the impact of its engagement and to align Borealis’ social engagement activities with the Company’s Purpose and its Strategy 2030, with its strong focus on sustainability, the Group has defined three areas of social engagement that directly contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs): Education & Social Integration, Water & Energy, and Waste & Resource Efficiency.  Borealis believes that young people’s ideas, creativity, and skills will determine the future of the economy and social stability. Therefore, the Borealis Social Fund nurtures young people’s interest in chemistry and science, supports the educational system to meet future challenges, and integrates marginalized, poor, and underprivileged people.

Another focus area of the Fund is to provide access to safe drinking water, and reliable, affordable renewable energy in developing and emerging countries, under the umbrella of Water for the World, a program established by Borealis and Borouge.

Furthermore, Borealis is committed to preventing plastic waste in the environment by helping to establish efficient and low-cost circular waste management systems in emerging and developing countries. Launched in 2017 by Borealis and Systemiq, Project STOP works hand in hand with city governments to create effective waste management systems in Indonesia.
