Driving the Circular Economy of Plastics in Europe

  • Alliance of more than 100 public and private stakeholders
  • Target: at least 10 million tons of recycled plastics per year in Europe, starting 2025

Borealis together with more than 100 public and private stakeholders from across the entire plastics value chain signed the declaration of the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA). The CPA’s vision is to deliver on the circular economy for plastics and substantially increase the use of recycled plastics into new products. The Alliance endorses the ambitious target that by 2025 at least 10 million tonnes of recycled plastics should find their way into products and packaging in Europe each year (hereafter referred to as helping to deliver the circular economy with a life cycle approach.

The CPA's declaration spearheads a plan to increase recycled plastics in Europe and commitment to reach the EU target of 10 million tonnes of recycled plastics in plastic products in the EU by 2025 without compromising on consumer protection, safety and hygiene. All the associations, organisations, companies and public authorities willing to contribute to delivering the commitments of the alliance co-signed the Declaration.

Lucrèce Foufopoulos, Executive Vice President Polyolefins, signed the declaration on behalf of Borealis, highlighting the company's front-running role in developing the market for recycled products and commitment to developing the circular economy for plastics.
