IPIC and Borealis to sponsor Al Jazira football club

The International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) and Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, have agreed to a three-year, exclusive main sponsorship of the Al Jazira football club in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), starting with the upcoming 2008-2009 football season.

The Al Jazira football team competes in the Premier League of the UAE's Etisalat National League and was placed second last season behind the 2007-2008 champion, Al Shabbab. The Etisalat league started in 1973 and is now considered one of the most exciting and challenging in the Asian continent.

"We are very proud to sponsor this first-class winning football club as they seek to become champions of the UAE's up-and-coming Etisalat league," comments IPIC Managing Director Khadem Al-Qubaisi. "This sponsorship is a sign of our dedication to supporting the local and national sport infrastructure and related industries. It is good news for Abu Dhabi and good news for the UAE."

"We are proud to be a sponsor of this fine football establishment together with IPIC, one of our Owners," adds Borealis Chief Executive Mark Garrett. "As we expand our interests in the Middle East and Asia, our presence in Abu Dhabi is growing considerably and it is additionally inspiring to play a role in supporting the community and its sporting ambitions. Naturally, we look forward to an exciting season as we watch Al Jazira compete for the championship."
