PO Elastomer and EVA solutions for Cable bedding compound
Queo™ the polyolefin elastomer (POE) and EVA solutions from Borealis can be used in cable bedding compound. The cable bedding compound consists of 80% CaCO3 which is also serving as a moderate Halogen Free Flame Retarder (HFFR) as it releases CO2 under high temperature

What is Cable bedding
It is a PO Elastomer plus ± 80% calcium carbonate, mainly used in multi-conductor cables, filling the spaces between conductors and making the cable round and to provide a protective boundary between inner and outer layers of the cable
Why Plastomer
- Robust polymer with high filler acceptance with improved filler dispersion
- Very flexible polymers with high mechanical properties: Tear and tensile strength, elongation at break
- Easy processing / variety on melt index choice Free flowing pellets for fast and continuous compounding
- Flexibility comparable to EPDM rubbers and flexible PVC
The grades used for this application are:
Queo’s: 8201, 7001LA, 6800LA
EVA’s: OE5118I, OE5328I, OE5928, OE5528I
The 80% CaCO3 is also serving as a moderate Halogen Free flame retarder as it releases CO2 under high temperature
