Borealis and Borouge, the world's leading providers of innovative, value-creating solutions for the wire and cable industry, announce the dedicated roll-out of the technology platform Borlink™ in Russia. Their latest innovations and flagship solutions will be showcased at the international wire and cable industry trade fair “wire Russia” in Moscow at the Expocentre Fairgrounds, Hall 7.3, Stand A08 from June 25-28.

Borlink™ roll-out in Russia

Borlink was introduced by Borealis and Borouge at wire Dusseldorf 2012 as a technology platform offering a complete global package of power cable compounds and expertise serving applications for medium and high voltage (MV, HV), including extra high voltage (EHV) and high voltage direct current (HVDC). Key innovations of Borlink include a tailor-made high pressure (HP) process for the production of high purity low density polyethylene (LDPE) base polymers with superior electrical properties and the introduction of a closed or controlled loop (from monomer to final packaging) which avoids contaminants and ensures homogenous and high-quality, clean compounds. The Borlink technology is a step change innovation in the power cable industry and serves as a platform for Borealis and Borouge to work together with the entire energy infrastructure value chain to establish innovative solutions that address the challenges of an increasingly connected world.

The dedicated Borlink roll-out in Russia underscores Borealis' long-term commitment to the Russian wire and cable industry. By working together with Borealis, wire and cable producers in Russia have access to high-quality, reliable and innovative power cable solutions in order to meet rising demand for electricity, and to facilitate rapid infrastructure growth.

"Applying the Borlink technology in the wire and cable industry benefits the entire value chain,” explains Anton Wolfsberger, Borealis Marketing Manager for Energy & Infrastructure. “For example, cables benefitting from Borlink technology are still performing to today's stringent standards even after 30 years of use. Furthermore, at the end of their life cycle, these cables can be fully recycled in combination with standard polyethylene for a fully sustainable, multi-generation life cycle."

New product launches and flagship solutions for the Russian market

Two new, innovative Borealis compounds will be highlighted at wire Russia, LE0563 and PP4874.

  • Borealis LE0563 is a next generation thermoplastic semiconductive compound suitable for both skin and jacket semiconductive cable applications where excellent grounding and diagnostics are essential. The launch of LE0563 complements Borealis' existing offering in power cables applications, and is especially suited for subsea usage.
  • Borealis PP4874 is a superior insulation compound for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) data cables. PP4874 leverages the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) to provide increased hardness. Data cables insulated with PP4874 maintain roundness during high-speed insulation twisting.

With more than 50 years of experience, Borealis and Borouge are the reliable partners of choice for high quality polyolefins used in a wide variety of power transmission and distribution cables as well as in electrical and fibre optic communications. At wire Russia, two flagship compound solutions – Visico™/Ambicat™ for low voltage (LV) cables and Borstar® for fibre optic cables will be showcased.

"Russia remains one of the most attractive growth markets in Europe," says Gilles Rochas, Borealis Vice President for Energy & Infrastructure. “Our long-term commitment to the Russian wire and cable industry through our investment in innovation, resources and capacity is in fact an investment in the future. Borealis consistently offers the most reliable and innovative solutions that enable Russia's wire and cable industry to produce quality cables in accordance with the highest global industry standards, yet with maximum efficiency."
