For over 100 years, Fratelli Guzzini has stood for the best in Italian design and manufacturing. Its durable and functional design objects are found in kitchens, dining rooms and homes around the world. In 1938, Guzzini was the first housewares company to launch plastic objects for domestic use. In subsequent decades, it launched numerous collections created using innovative injection molding processes.
Given that its own history is inextricably entwined with plastics innovation, choosing Borealis as its partner in collaboration is a natural fit – in more ways than one. Guzzini and Borealis are both dedicated to upholding the principles of the circular economy by designing products with recycling in mind as well as ensuring their reusability and recycling. Their recent collaboration illustrates the benefits of cooperation in the spirit of EverMinds™, the Borealis platform founded to advance plastics circularity with value chain partners.
In record time, Guzzini and Borealis were able to bring to market a new series of more sustainable food containers. These durable, food-safe receptacles are made using grades from the Bornewables™ portfolio of premium polyolefins manufactured with second generation renewable feedstock. Using the Bornewables in these houseware products, allows Guzzini to lower the carbon footprint of their products, while also being 100% recyclable at end of life.
At Guzzini, we embrace sustainability in all its dimensions, and seek partners who do the same. By working with Borealis, we can identify and incorporate latest-generation materials in our products and processes. We seek material solutions that have been developed to be more environmentally sustainable in order to help protect our natural resources, and the Bornewables fit the bill perfectly.
Sergio Grasso, Guzzini CEO
Using Bornewables grades allows manufacturers to replace fossil fuel-based feedstock with an identical amount of sustainably-sourced renewable feedstock. The same high functionality and performance of the end product is assured, even for food-grade applications. Because the Bornewables are drop-in solutions, no additional homologation is necessary. This makes switching easy and affordable, as no extra costs are incurred. Finally, because Bornewables grades are ISCC PLUS certified (The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) according to the mass balance method, they are traceable along the entire supply chain.
Guzzini are pioneers in the use of plastic for everyday articles, so it makes sense to combine our respective experience and know-how to produce more sustainable articles that make everyday life easier. Borealis offers one of the widest and most comprehensive ranges of sustainable material solutions, from the ISCC Plus certified grades in our Bornewables and our Borcycle™ C portfolio of chemically recycled solutions, to those in our Borcycle™ M portfolio of mechanically-recycled grades.
