Borealis has combined with Borouge and NOVA Chemicals to form Borouge International, a new global polyolefins leader.
To support the shift toward a circular and renewable value chain for acetone - a key raw material used in rubber additives - Borouge International supplies Lanxess with Borvida™ B‑acetone. This ISCC PLUS‑certified product, derived from non‑food waste and residue biomass, is chemically identical to conventional acetone. Lanxess uses it as a circular building block for its mass‑balanced antidegradant Vulkanox HS/LG Scopeblue
Established in 2026, Borouge International brings together Borouge, Borealis and NOVA Chemicals Corporation into a global polyolefins platform with complementary regional strengths, advanced technology capabilities and the scale to serve customers across key growth markets.
Borvida™ B‑acetone is part of the broader Borvida portfolio of renewable and circular base chemicals. Offering the same properties and performance as conventional base chemicals, they have a considerably lower carbon footprint and support the transition away from fossil feedstocks. Bio-based, renewable content is tracked throughout the value chain using a chain of custody model based on the Mass Balance approach, ensuring transparent verification from feedstock source to final product.
Mass‑balanced acetone produced using Borvida™ B‑acetone and renewable process inputs has been in industrial production environments for several years, offering manufacturers a broader range of sustainable solutions. With a carbon footprint reduction of up to 175% per kilogram* compared to regular acetone, these circular acetone grades provide a significantly more sustainable alternative - without compromising on purity or performance.
“At Lanxess, we are committed to making our value chains more sustainable, and that journey starts with the raw materials,” says Jens-Hendrik Fischer, Senior Vice President of Lanxess Business Unit RheinChemie. “Thanks to our partnership with Borouge International, we can offer bio-based circular, mass‑balanced acetone solutions that help our customers accelerate their sustainability ambitions.”
This collaboration shows how Borouge International is bringing its strategy to life by enabling customers like Lanxess to access high‑quality circular feedstocks, supported by secure supply, technical expertise, and the flexibility needed to respond to evolving market and regulatory needs.
“By working together across the value chain, we can unlock the full value of sustainable acetone from bio waste. In collaboration with Lanxess, we are developing innovative, high‑performance solutions that support customers’ sustainability goals and help them prepare for future sustainable transformation.” says Thomas Van De Velde, Borouge International Senior Vice President Base Chemicals.
