PO Elastomer and EVA solutions for Cable Bedding compound

Queo™ the polyolefin elastomer (POE) and EVA solutions from Borealis can be used in cable bedding compound. The cable bedding compound consists of 80% CaCO3 which is also serving as a moderate Halogen Free Flame Retarder (HFFR) as it releases CO2 under high temperature

What is Cable Bedding?
It is a PO elastomer plus ± 80% calcium carbonate, mainly used in multi-conductor cables, filling the spaces between conductors and making the cable round and to provide a protective boundary between inner and outer layers of the cable

Why plastomer?
  • Robust polymer with high filler acceptance with improved filler dispersion
  • Very flexible polymers with high mechanical properties: Tear and tensile strength, elongation at break
  • Easy processing / variety on melt index choice
  • Free flowing pellets for fast and continuous compounding
  • Flexibility comparable to EPDM rubbers and flexible PVC

The grades used for this application are:
  • Queo
    • 8201
    • 7001LA
    • 6800LA
  • EVA
    • OE5118I
    • OE5328I
    • OE5928
    • OE5528I

The 80% CaCO3 is also serving as a moderate Halogen Free flame retarder as it releases CO2 under high temperature
