Developing and inspiring a passion for science among young people is essential for driving innovative solutions toward a sustainable future. Over 10 years Borealis is already supporting Unga Forskare, a Swedish non-profit association dedicated to nurture young people’s passion about science, technology, and mathematics.
Curiosity sparks change: bright minds of the future
Every December, Sweden becomes a meeting point for some of the brightest young scientific minds in the world. Aged 18-25 they are chosen through international science competitions — such as the World and European Championships — as well as through top ranked universities, based on their outstanding research achievements. SIYSS isn’t just about presenting research; it’s about igniting dreams. It is a chance to witness firsthand what passion, persistence, and discovery can achieve. SIYSS is about showing youth that science is not a distant concept locked in textbooks — it’s alive, global, and something they can be part of.

SIYSS Seminar
Highlight of the week is the SIYSS Seminar, a full day of programming for nearly 2,000 attendees. In a series of sessions participants present their research to high school students and engage with them in a poster exhibition, enabling deeper, one-on-one discussions.

“Minds of the Future” is a round table, where participants are discussing solutions to global challenges. This discussion has previously featured esteemed guests such as in 2024 Professor David Baker, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2024.
