Ocean Eye

The increasing volume of plastics ending up in our environment and even in our food where they do not belong at all is a pressing issue and a growing concern. One aspect of addressing this critical issue and raising awareness amongst young people is through science-based education. Since 2021 Borealis supports the Ocean Eye by the Science Centre Netzwerk which aims to raise awareness about this issue in a playful setting.

An Escape Game on Sustainable Oceans

The Ocean Eye escape game project is aimed at game-savvy young people aged 15 and over. Working in small groups, they learn about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the issue of ocean plastics and specifically about microplastics. They experience teamwork, problem solving and enjoy 60 minutes of fun learning about scientific research methodologies, including chemical analysis, microscopy and physical experiments.

The Ocean Eye combines classical elements of an escape room, such as color filters, codes and black light, and scientifically sound information all packed into an exciting story. In addition to raising awareness of microplastics, participants learn about the UN SDGs, develop a scientific way of thinking and are encouraged to adopt a mindset of using resources and recyclable materials in a mindful way.
